Purchase of the Porsche 924 s
I started my search for a Porsche 924S by driving from Orlando to Deland, Florida to meet with Kevin Duffy who owns 924S944.com. Kevin retired from his real career and is working on multiple Porsches restoring 924S’s and Porsche 944’s and creating his masterpieces as drivers for a lucky few buyers. He had a garage full of Porsches and parts to go with these cars that he collected over the years. He mostly is focusing on having a good time now with select restorations and attending specific car events around the southeast US. Coming up is HPDE PCA on October 3, 2025, in Bloomingdale, Georgia and Amelia Island Concours, in Amelia Island, Florida on March 6, 2026.
I explained to Kevin I was wanting to find a Porsche 924S I could purchase and restore. I indicated I had purchased a 924 in Denver in 1977, in which I asked my wife to marry me. He enjoyed the romanticism I spoke of and said he would be on the look for a car close to our winter residence in Arizona. It wasn’t long and he told me about Porsche 924S in Brea, California that was being offered for sale on an auction site. Kevin reviewed the auction information of the car and I placed a winning bid and purchased the car from William Beeson.
My wife and I flew out and picked up the car and drove it back to our winter residence in Phoenix, Arizona. It was an excellent car prime for restoration. I purchased several parts from Kevin totaling $1,291, including a new muffler, an under tray, shocks, front bumpers, Porsche decals, a shift boot, a Rennbay Fuel line kit, and lug nuts.
Then, in Phoenix I acquired a sun roof gasket, a seat rail with locking device and contracted with Feeney automotive to install these items and perform some normal maintenance on the car. I ordered a cargo cover I purchased on eBay without the retraction mechanism. I then hired an upholstery shop in south Phoenix to replace the front seat upholstery and had new Michelin tires installed by Discount tire.
We then sold our Phoenix home, and I had the car shipped to our home in Castle Pines, Colorado and started planning on the next steps for restoration.
